_ The syllabus design is extremely important to achieve what
we want and what students what at the end of the course.
How we design our syllabus is going to guide us where to go and is going to establish the right time to do it.
Syllabuses, as well as we know, are specifications of the content of language teaching which have been submitted to some degree of structuring or ordering with the aim of making teaching and learning a more effective process.
As novice teachers, we need to look for the most suitable way to create a syllabus so that we meet students’ academic and personal needs. Taking into account the needs and interests of students, we can enhance our syllabus including tasks that enable students to practice and better their four macro skills.
A syllabus is something that helps us to guide our students through the right way. We can find many types of syllabus; for example: the traditional syllabus, and the functional one. The traditional is the one in which the teacher is the center of the classroom, and does not allow the students to share their thoughts and feelings about the topics they are studying. On the other hand, we have the functional syllabus in which we can find a student-centered type of classroom; the teacher is just a facilitator and the students have the freedom to show and share their experiences, feelings, and thoughts; their classroom becomes a place where they have the chance to make new experiences through the learning process.
With a well-designed syllabus, we will be able to know ahead the contents, objectives, and tasks that students and teachers will develop throughout the semester. It is true that there are many different type of syllabus, but if we consider that they will not meet what we want to achieve, we need to create a syllabus which needs to match with the way we teach and the way our students learn. Also it needs to match with both students and teachers to meet and achieve needs and objectives feeling that our time was well- spent after all.
